Governing body
The USCF state affiliate. Runs the state championships, sanctions the scholastic championships, and keeps the statewide tournament clearing-house calendar. If you play rated chess in Texas, the TCA is the organization behind it.
Tournament
The Southwest Open
Labor Day weekend in San Antonio. One of the oldest continuously running opens in the state, with Open, U2000 and Novice sections plus a K-12 scholastic alongside it. The TCA holds its annual meeting on the Friday night.
College program
Established 1996. The program that made Texas a destination for college chess, and the reason a strong Texas junior has a realistic path to a funded degree without leaving the state.
College program
Has won at state, national and international level, and runs tournaments, camps and classes for the surrounding community - which is why the Valley now produces scholastic players out of proportion to its size.
College program
The third Texas program with scholarship money attached, and the anchor of organized chess in West Texas.
